So, this is how it feels to win…. The Washington Huskies football and basketball programs are having big weekends.
Let’s start with hoops. The Dawgs finished off their weekend with an 85-59 de-toothing of the Oregon State Beavers. Jon Brockman led the team with 16 points, Quincy Pondexter had 15. On Thursday, the Huskies blew away the University of Nike’s Ducks, 84-67. The weekend sweep propels UW into a three way tie for first place in the Pac-10 with UCLA and Cal.
On the football front, new head coach Steve Sarkisian could have as many as eight verbal commitments from recruits visiting Seattle when the weekend ends. According to Dawgman.com, defensive back prospect Will Shamburger, who had already committed to Boise State, changed his mind and will follow buddy and teammate Keith Price (QB, St. John Bosco) to the UW. Arizona State, Utah and Washington State were also interested in the 6-foot-1, 187-pound defender.
Desmond Trufant, the younger brother of Seahawk Marcus Trufant, has verbally committed as well. The 5-foot-170-pound cornerback from Wilson High is the 70th ranked defensive back prospect in the country according to Scout.com. Dawgman.com is also reporting that wide receiver prospect James Johnson of Valley Center, Calif. may commit as well.
This is all welcome news for Seattle sports fans that’ve had a rough year. Just remember Seattle, they are laughing with you, not laughing at you.
