Former general manager Woody Woodward has rejoined the Mariners front office according to John Hickey’s blog on the Seattle P-I Web site. Woodward will lend an old, dusty hand in the pro scouting department. Most people thought Woody was dead, but current GM Jack Zduriencik probably thinks he can still evaluate talent with the help of a giant magnifying glass and the Listen Up (As Seen On TV!). Woody’s last stint with the M’s was from 1989-‘99 and most remember him as a colossal screw up. On the other hand, the M’s had some of the franchise's best talent ever during his tenure.Dawg days
Despite being ahead in all three overtimes, the Washington Huskies lost a crusher to Cal, 88-85 last Saturday. Obviously, they should have won the game, but when you can’t shoot free throws or play defense bad things tend to happen to good teams. A few days later the Dawgs went to Oregon and kicked the bejesus out of them, 84-67 – the largest margin of victory on the University of Nike’s home court in 25 seasons. So, that was nice. The Huskies face off against President Barack Obama’s brother-in-law Craig Robinson and the Oregon State Beavers tonight. A Husky victory will most definitely lead to a secret service beat down or IRS audit.
Bald and beautiful
New Seahawks coach Jim Mora hired Casey "Gus" Bradley this week to be Seattle’s defensive coordinator. He joins Husky coach Nick Holt in the brotherhood of bald and enthusiastic defensive coordinators in Seattle.
To be a soccer hooliganWith the No. 1 pick in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft, the Sounders FC chose the University of Akron's Steve Zakuani. He’s 20 years old, originally from the Congo and apparently really good. Also, this is the first pick ever for our new MLS franchise. Look, I don’t know what makes this particular draft super and I’d love to offer up some analysis or opinion, but I don’t know dick about soccer. I’m just looking forward to drinking $8 beers at Qwest Field again in the next couple of months.

Yeah, I did actually. I really enjoyed all the soccer fans who went bat shit over it. It's amazing the number of soccer fans who'll defend their sport to the bloody end. Any other fan of a particular sport would shrug it off, but these guys are really defensive. Love it.
