Morning Notes: Seahawks are still really good

This has been the first Seahawks preview that hasn’t begun with, “Thanks to a weak NFC West division, the Seahawks have been able to win four consecutive division titles.” No backhanded compliments here as Clare Farnsworth briefly highlights the offense, defense and breakout-year candidate Leroy Hill.

Anxiety over Husky recruiting heightens
Recruiting geeks are already worried about the Husky football class of 2009 saying the Dawgs should have at least one early commitment by now. The Times points out that Washington had five at this time last year. Consensus seems to be that recruits are not committing because they think coach Tyrone Willingham may lose his job if the team flounders again this season. USC has four right now, but those recruits haven’t cost the Trojans too much cash out of pocket in the early going.

M’s call up LaHair
I’m not sure what impresses me more. Bryan LaHair being called up to play first base for the Mariners or that there are at least 39 rounds in the MLB amateur draft. The 25-year-old, 39th round draft pick has been hitting .263 for Tacoma this season, with 53 RBIs, 26 doubles and 12 homers in 85 games, writes David Andriesen of the P-I.
