This is a new weekly installment for the blog where, for good or for bad, I’ll pick one stand-out player or sports celebrity.
Mariners skipper John McLaren nearly got this week’s honor when he began reading aloud from the Lou Pinella tirade queue cards. But I’m going with second baseman Jose Lopez since he’s nearly the only one who is stepping to the plate with something more than his jock in his hand.
Jose loves to make errors at the worst possible time, but he pulled his weight at the plate last week. Here are the numbers:
June 1-7: .384 AVG, 26 AB, 10 H, 6 R, 6 RBI, 3 HR, 1 BB, 2 SO
Mild attractions: Left fielder Raul Ibanez also had a solid week, .363 AVG, 22 AB, 8 H, 4 R, 5 RBI, 4, BB, 1 SO. Also outfielder Ichiro, and pitchers Felix Hernandez and R.A. Dickey.
