M's breakout win changes little

Unfortunately, the current roster of Mariners is now making a pitch to hold on to their jobs, avoiding a trade or outright release. A 10-2 drubbing of Atlanta has everybody in the clubhouse atwitter over what could be if the bats come alive.

The M’s finally came through in the clutch against the Braves with Jose Lopez’s three-run double in the eighth inning sealing the win. Is this the beginning of something great? With skipper John McLaren gone, has the team found the solution?

Uh, no. Even if the sticks light afire it would be just a drop in the bucket of suckiness. It’s youth time. You know it, I know, they know it.

And just maybe the players have decided after seeing McLaren walk the plank that getting released wouldn’t be a good thing. Maybe, and this is a huge leap, some of these guys actually want to continue playing major league baseball.

Luckily for M’s fans, it’s looking like a lot of the current roster is going to be churned since none of them can take responsibility for their own lousy play. And worse, just play better.

A day removed from managing the worst baseball team in Mariner history, McLaren gave us confirmation of what we all suspected: a fractured clubhouse void of leadership where nobody is accountable.

''There is tension, friction and a little jealousy,'' McLaren said. ''We tried to deal with it, but they got to do it on their own.

“I am not calling anybody out. I'm not bashing them. It’s hard to come to the park when you lose for gosh's sake. But we've had a divide, hitters vs. pitchers. On a good team, those things are overlooked. But (not when) you're losing.”

I’m not sure who is jealous of whom or what he may be jealous about, but it sure isn’t over talent.
