Bedard solid in first trade deadline showcase

In his first trade deadline prospect showcase, Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard gave future employers a glimpse of what they could expect if they deal for the lefty this summer. Five innings, 85 pitches, three earned runs and eight strikeouts.

Aside from the three-run hiccup in the fifth last night against the Twins, Bedard was commanding, efficient, and as far as we know he didn’t tell reporters to go @%&#! themselves after the game. Might this be the new Erik Bedard that everyone was talking about in spring training? Has the colossal prick turned over a new leaf? No, probably not. But he’d do well for himself and the M’s to keep a low profile and keep pitching well. It’s the fastest way out of town, so let’s hope for the best.

It would be great to see Bedard try to someday pitch into the sixth or seventh inning, though. But he’s always recovering from one injury or another, so it seems Bedard is destined to stay on a pitch count so he doesn’t hurt his ass again.
