Seahawks receivers must now wear name tags

When I first looked at it, I thought it was a list of the starting five for the '09 University of Texas basketball team. But no, it’s the four-deep roster for the Seahawks as of today. I reserve the right to begin freaking out about this situation after the Bears game on Saturday night:

1. Nate Burleson
2. Courtney Taylor
3. Ben Obomanu
4. Logan Payne
5. Jordan Kent
The rest: Michael Bumpus, Joel Filani, Trent Shelton, Bryan Gilmore

As we’ve now all come to learn, Bobby Engram will be out six to eight weeks because of a cracked bone in his shoulder that he suffered in the Hawks’ preseason game against the Vikings. We were hoping that Engram could hold down the fort at flanker until Deion Branch returned from knee surgery. Now, the presumptive flanker is who?

In terms of Friday’s game against Minnesota, Obomanu and Taylor have gone AWOL – neither one had a catch - while Bumpus has gained a little more visibility. There are lots of nice stories about him after he led the Seahawks with three catches for 51 yards against the Vikings.

The optimist says that quarterback Matt Hasselbeck can make due with this lot until everyone is healthy. The pessimist says Hasselbeck will need a game program to figure out who these guys are.
