Morning Notes: M’s brass blow waiver deal

No deal could be made for left fielder Raul Ibanez and pitcher Jarrod Washburn after they were claimed on waivers on Tuesday. M’s brass had until Thursday afternoon to make the deal and couldn’t figure it out. Also gone is a great opportunity to dump Washburn’s massive $10.35 million salary for 2009. Reports are the Twins were willing to pay Washburn’s salary, but weren’t willing to give up a starting pitcher in return. Thanks again, Mariners’ baseball operations. You’re the greatest.

Pay up OKC
Ah, reality sets in. Oklahoma City got its basketball team. Now, Thunder fans, pony up. The Associated Press reports that the average ticket price for your Oklahoma City Thunder will be $47.51 for seats that don’t feature any added amenities, compared to $35 when the team was in Seattle. The average NBA ticket price is $48.83. The team won’t say how much the courtside and club seats will cost.

Goodbye dumpy headquarters
The Seahawks will officially move into their new Renton headquarters for good this afternoon. They’ll hold a morning walkthrough at their Kirkland location and then pack it up. Local scribes and media types are waxing nostalgic about the old place, but from everything I’ve seen, the old place is a dump. The new HQ looks pretty damn cool and I’m not sure any of the players will care that they do won’t have to employ the buddy system when using the shower stalls.

Huskies reel in top recruit
Garfield High School defensive tackle Deandre Coleman decided to forgo making his decision after visiting other schools and commit early. Scout.com ranks him the 13th-best defensive tackle in the country, choosing Washington over LSU, Oregon and California.
