I have this problem anytime I go to a ball game. Without fail there will be two people sitting in front of me who can’t go five minutes without showing the world their affection for one another. And nine times out of ten it’s ugly-on-ugly action.
Depending on the amount of beer I’ve consumed, my request to have the PDA cease ranges from the always solid standby, “get a room” to “dude, you’re f**king killing everyone in this section with your troll love!”
So, when the story of the two lesbians who were booted from Safeco Field for going at it between nibbles of garlic fries hit the news cycle, one question came to mind. Are the Mariners that stupid? The answer is, yes.
Seattle has one of the largest gay populations in the country. To alienate this contingent is bad business (many season ticket holders), not to mention the cries of discrimination you’ll get from a liberal city that’s always looking for another reason to protest. Oh, and that’s happened. Media whore Dan Savage has called for a “kiss in” against the Mariners.
The lesbians said they were wrongly singled out and were only exchanging small pecks. The opposition says the pecks escalated to groping and full on making out. So, an usher gave them the 86 because another woman complained that she didn’t want to explain to her kids why two women were kissing.
This story has legs, four actually, and it isn’t going away. One of the lesbians, Sibrina Guerrero, told the Seattle Times that this incident “is not making me look very good.” Guerrero certainly isn’t running away from the spotlight, though – she looks fab in the photo shoot outside of Safeco field with the Associated Press.
Let’s be honest, this is great PR for Guerrero, especially for someone who is trying to make a career on TV. She was a contestant on the MTV show "A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila," in which men and women compete for exclusive groping rights of a bisexual. Very cool. Guerrero also works at a local bar known for its scantily clad women. Again, very cool.
So, it seems we’re looking at a case of she said, she said, she said. Who’s lying in this case? Probably everyone, but who cares. This is the best Seattle baseball story of the summer.
